WOOD RIVER, IL – A 38-year-old man from Wood River is now facing drug charges after walking into the police station and asking detectives to test his methamphetamine.
According to the Wood River Police Department, Seth Peter Kelly contacted officers on Tuesday and reported that he had purchased meth about a week earlier but experienced a “bad reaction” after smoking it. Kelly told officers he believed he was sold the wrong drug and wanted to press charges against the individual who sold it to him.
Detectives invited Kelly to bring in the substance so they could verify what it was. He arrived at the department and handed over a clear, crystal-like substance wrapped in aluminum foil. A field test confirmed the substance was methamphetamine the drug Kelly said he intended to buy.
Kelly was immediately arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. He was taken to the Madison County Jail and is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.
The police department reminded the public that their detectives are always ready to “assist” anyone who feels they were misled during an illegal drug purchase.
