If you have been sliding around St. Louis County with expired temp tags or old plates, you might want to go ahead and get legal because the Missouri State Highway Patrol has made it clear that they are outside and they are not letting up. Troopers will be out in full force this March watching traffic, running plates, and stopping drivers who have fallen behind on registration.
The Highway Patrol already confirmed this enforcement wave and from the looks of the patrol units they are rolling in, they are ready to stand on business. This is not one of those situations where they say it and lightly enforce it. They are actually doing it and St. Louis County is one of the main areas they will be focused on.
A lot of drivers have been struggling with late fees, backed up inspections, and the cost of getting a car legal. Even with that reality, MSHP says state law still requires your registration to be current. Once those tags expire, officers have full authority to stop your vehicle.
People will likely notice more troopers posted near busy intersections, gas stations, major streets like Lindbergh, Natural Bridge, West Florissant, and those cut-through neighborhoods where expired temps are common. They are treating March like a statewide clean up month.
If you know your tags are expired, handle it before they handle you. MSHP is moving with intention and the message is simple. Get legal or get pulled over.
