Things are starting to heat up inside the St. Louis County Police Department, and all eyes are now turning toward another case that’s about to hit the courtroom.
A new trial is set to begin on May 4, where St. Louis County is facing allegations of discrimination and retaliation. While full details have not yet been made public, the case is already drawing attention, especially considering what we’ve seen play out in recent months.
This comes after multiple lawsuits involving ranking officers resulted in multi-million dollar verdicts, including a case tied to Mike Reifschneider, where a jury awarded $1.2 million in actual damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Another discrimination case also reportedly reached a major payout.
There are ongoing allegations from Black officers who say they experienced discrimination and retaliation after speaking out about racial disparities within the department. Names like Capt. Morgan have been brought up as someone who raised concerns about inequality, both publicly and behind closed doors. There are also claims involving Chief Doyle, who reportedly pushed to become the first Black chief but was allegedly met with resistance during that process.
St. Louis County has been fighting these claims hard, bringing in firms like Lewis Rice LLC, and has allegedly already spent over a million dollars defending at least one of these cases.
So now the question becomes… what’s really going on behind the scenes?
