19-year-old Rasool Al Janabi, the St. Louis man responsible for driving into a crowd at the Ted Drewes parking lot in 2024, will not be serving prison time after taking a plea deal.
Instead, Al Janabi pleaded guilty to one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in over $1,000 in damage and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation. As part of the agreement, prosecutors dropped multiple assault charges that were previously tied to the case.
According to investigators, Al Janabi was driving down Chippewa when he claimed he swerved to avoid something in the road and ended up crashing through a barricade into a crowded parking lot. Six people were hurt, including two minors, four adults, and an off-duty police officer. Authorities say he attempted to leave the scene but later returned with his family.
His attorney, Scott Rosenblum, said he was satisfied with the outcome.
