BROOKE SHARP MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST BLACK WOMAN APPOINTED INTERIM CITY MANAGER IN UNIVERSITY CITY

University City is making history with the appointment of Brooke A. Sharp, Esq. as the new Interim City Manager. She is the first Black woman ever to hold this role and only the second woman in the city’s history since its incorporation in 1906. Her appointment follows the retirement of longtime City Manager Gregory Rose and becomes official on February 6, 2026. Sharp has been with the city since 2021, first as Assistant City Manager and most recently as Deputy City Manager.

Born and raised in E. St. Louis, Sharp brings a powerful mix of education, experience, and community-driven leadership. She holds degrees from Lindenwood University, Mizzou, and Saint Louis University School of Law. Her career spans leadership roles in East St. Louis and Dellwood, where she built a reputation for dedication to residents and a deep commitment to public service. Her work has helped lay the foundation for several infrastructure improvements and meaningful community partnerships in University City.

This moment is bigger than a title. Brooke Sharp’s appointment sends a clear message to young Black girls and women who dream of leading change in their communities. It is a reminder that leadership comes in many forms, and when trusted with opportunity, Black women rise. University City is not just witnessing history it is embracing it.
