16-year-old Dreyden Bostic, has been charged with second-degree murder and other felonies after police say he shot and killed one of his accomplices during an attempted car break-in in south St. Louis.
The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. on May 1 in the 4300 block of Vermont Avenue. According to investigators, Aeyion Barnett, also 16, was fatally wounded during the chaos as a group of six individuals tried breaking into a white Chevrolet Suburban.
His crew was exiting a vehicle and targeting the SUV before something startled them. In a panic, several members began firing handguns in different directions. Barnett was shot in the process and later died from his injuries.
On Thursday, authorities confirmed that Bostic has been certified to stand trial as an adult. In addition to murder, he is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed criminal action, and possession of a controlled substance.
