27-year-old Ahmad K. Jackson is being charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and abandonment of a corpse after prosecutors say he killed his ex-boyfriend and dumped his body in the Mississippi River.
Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Ross Harris, who lived in the Soulard neighborhood. Harris had been reported missing on April 4 before his death was later confirmed.
According to a St. Louis City police affidavit, investigators were led to Jackson after learning Harris’ phone last pinged at his home. Family members also provided a voicemail where Jackson allegedly threatened to kill Harris and said his family wouldn’t be able to recognize him.
Authorities say they recovered text messages from Jackson accusing Harris of cheating, along with additional threats. Phone records show Jackson purchased a firearm in St. Charles and traveled between Harris’ home and his own residence.
Investigators later found blood inside Jackson’s home and vehicle, further tying him to the case.
Jackson is currently being held at the St. Louis City Justice Center without bond as the investigation continues.
