29-year-old Devonta McCray has been identified as the man who was fatally shot and killed in East St. Louis, in a case that authorities say involved his own father.
According to investigators, 49-year-old Anthony L. Powe has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder following the shooting, which happened near 22nd and Market Street.
Police say officers responded to the scene and found McCray inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second victim was also located nearby with gunshot injuries and was transported to a hospital.
After an investigation, authorities identified Powe as the suspect. Officials confirmed that Powe is McCray’s father.
Powe is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail as the case moves forward.
