An arrest has been made in the killing of 25-year-old Raykel Thompson, a young woman who was shot while inside her vehicle in the Carr Square neighborhood.

According to police, 18-year-old Ervin Cage Jr. was arrested on March 17, 2026, in connection to the October shooting. He has since been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. Authorities say bond has not been allowed.
The charges stem from an incident that happened around 1 a.m. on Friday, October 18, when officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 1600 block of Biddle. When they arrived, they found Raykel inside a vehicle that had crashed into a fire hydrant after she had been shot.

She was rushed to the hospital and fought for her life, but sadly passed away three days later. Now, months later, police say the person responsible has been identified and taken into custody.
Raykel is remembered by loved ones as more than just a victim. She was a daughter, a friend, and someone who left a lasting impact on those around her.
