WOMAN SENTENCED TO PRISON AFTER ARSON IN PUERTO RICO TIKTOK PLAYED A CRUCIAL ROLE IN EXPOSING HER

A Missouri woman has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to setting fire to multiple businesses in Puerto Rico and if it weren’t for TikTok, she just might’ve gotten away with it.

Danielle Bertothy, of St. Peters, pleaded guilty in July to one count of arson for a fire she set in January at a commercial building located at Road 3301 KM 2.9, Combate Beach in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. The property housed a retail store, restaurant, bar, and hotel.

After the fire, several posts began circulating on social media. In multiple TikTok clips, Bertothy was seen arguing with staff before flames erupted near the business. The viral footage helped identify her involvement and played a key role in the investigation that led to her arrest and conviction.
