A 74-year-old man has died months after being attacked outside his home in the Mark Twain neighborhood, and police are now calling it a homicide.
Willie Chappel was assaulted on April 6, 2025, after answering a knock at his door in the 5300 block of Arlington. According to authorities, he was struck in the head, causing him to fall and lose consciousness. He later walked into the North Patrol station with visible injuries to report the incident.
Chappel, who continued to suffer complications from the injury including seizures, a concussion, and stroke-like symptoms was hospitalized multiple times before passing away on October 3, 2025.
It wasn’t until December 23 that the Medical Examiner’s Office notified the Homicide Division that his death had officially been ruled a homicide following an autopsy.
As of now, no arrests have been made.
