There has finally been a major development in the death of Kennedy Reed. St. Louis police say 22-year-old Lilly Belfield of St. Charles was arrested Wednesday in connection with the fatal crash that took Kennedy’s life.
Belfield is now charged with DWI resulting in the death of another person, involuntary manslaughter and three counts of second-degree assault.
For Kennedy’s family and everyone who has been waiting for accountability, this is a major step forward. Charges are not a conviction, and the case will now move through the court system, but somebody is finally being held to answer for what happened that night.
Kennedy can’t be brought back, and no court case will ever fill the space her death left behind. But her name hasn’t been forgotten, and neither has her story.
