A 19-year-old is now facing serious charges after a robbery turned deadly, leaving 36-year-old Lionel Steed dead.

According to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Ta’Rez Roberson has been charged with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, two counts of attempted stealing, and attempted robbery. He is currently being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

Investigators say on or around February 4, 2026, the defendant, acting with another individual, attempted to forcibly steal car keys from 36-year-old Lionel Steed. During the commission of that robbery, Steed was shot and killed.

Authorities confirmed that both the attempted robbery and the murder were carried out using a firearm. Officials also stated that the defendant has admitted to the conduct. Charges are accusations, and the case will proceed through the court system.
