A woman has died and traffic on I-70 westbound near W. Florissant was diverted for several hours after a police chase that ended with a crash Sunday morning.
The interstate was reopened around 7:15 a.m.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the chase began in Fairmont City, Illinois when police there pulled a car over for speeding.
Mitch McCoy, the director of public affairs and information for the St. Louis Police Department, said that the woman who was driving pulled over but at some point decided to take off and an officer was dragged for several feet. The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
