Friends, family and volunteers gather to search for 12-year-old Alyeyia Carter

Real Stl News was on the scene today of a traumatic search and rescue effort for a missing girl.

12-year-old Alyeyia Carter was swept away last night after the car she was riding in along with her mother and two others crashed near Natural Bridge Rd.

The incident happened after 1am when severe weather caused flash flooding in the area. The family were trying to make their way back up the ramp however Alyeyia Carter was unable to make it past the strength of the current.

Many community leaders came out to help aid in the search including MO – Congresswoman Cori Bush, Moma Cat and Ferguson City Councilwoman Fran Griffin.

The body of Alyeyia Carter was later found in Coldwater Creek off of McDonell Blvd near Lindbergh.

Real Stl News extends our deepest condolences to the family.
