MAN STABS GRANDMOTHER, BARRICADES HIMSELF INSIDE VEHICLE AT NORTH CITY GAS STATION

St. Louis police say a man is in custody after a violent incident that began with the stabbing death of his grandmother and ended hours later at a North City gas station.

According to authorities, an 81 year old woman was found stabbed to death inside a home in the 8500 block of Jenny Drive in St. Louis County around 11 a.m. Sunday. Investigators were able to quickly identify a suspect and a vehicle connected to the homicide.

Later that afternoon, St. Louis Metropolitan Police located the suspect’s vehicle at a Crown Mart gas station at Natural Bridge Road and Union Boulevard. Police say the man refused to exit his truck, prompting officers to clear the area and shut down the intersection as a precaution.

SWAT units were called to the scene, and after negotiations, officers used non lethal measures to take the suspect into custody. Police confirmed bean bag rounds and flash bangs were deployed during the standoff.

The suspect was taken to the hospital as a precaution following his arrest. Authorities have not released his name at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
