Around 8 p.m. tonight, officers assigned to District 5 responded to a call in the 5700 block of Waterman after reports of a man threatening a woman with a firearm at a residence.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers arrived on scene and observed the man and woman engaged in an argument on a front porch. Moments later, the suspect opened fire, shooting the woman in front of responding officers.
An officer returned fire during the incident, striking the suspect. The officer was not injured. Police recovered a firearm believed to have been used by the suspect.
Both the woman and the suspect were transported to a local hospital. The woman later died from her injuries. The suspect remains in critical and unstable condition.
Force Investigation Unit detectives are now leading the investigation, which remains active. Additional details will be released as they become available.
