A one-year-old child has been safely reunited with their mother after a vehicle was taken in the Bevo neighborhood of south St. Louis.
According to authorities, the child’s mother briefly stepped away from her running Volkswagen Jetta to pick up food when someone jumped into the vehicle and drove off not realizing the child was inside.
Someone noticed the car running and immediately alerted authorities. Police responded swiftly, canvassed the surrounding area, and located the vehicle not far from the scene. The child was discovered inside, unharmed, and was quickly reunited with their mother. The suspect fled before officers arrived and has not yet been located. The investigation is ongoing.
