With the legalization of medical marijuana, Missouri must have 192 medical marijuana dispensaries by 2020 according to combslawstl.com. My question is where was this new wave of legalizing weed when we were getting locked up by the mass for small amounts of marijuana. Wealthy investors are doing the same thing people of color have been doing for generations. It often feels like the same thing that is trending we also get demonized for. According to ACLU African-Americans are more likely to be stopped, searched, arrested and convicted for small amounts of marijuana.

This is evidence that people of color experience discrimination at every stage of the criminal justice system. Many believe that the Nixon war on drugs was racially motivated and another way to implement mass criminalization to African-Americans. Statistics show that out of 80% of people incarcerated in the Federal Prison system for drug offenses 60% of them are Black and Latino.

Upon winning the prosecuting attorney race Wesley Bell quickly implemented changes when it came to prosecuting for possession of marijuana. He decided not to prosecute for a 100 grams or less. In which he was highly criticized for. Hopefully, as time progress, other officials will follow suit. When we speak on the war on drugs we must get to the root of the epidemic. Who put the drugs in our neighborhoods in the first place? What are your thoughts and opinions on this growing trend?
