In today’s press conference, Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced the state of Missouri will be ending federal unemployment benefits. The initiative was put in place to help struggling families who had fallen on hard times due to COVID-19.
At the height of COVID, many families were unable to pay bills because most had lost their jobs. Jobs are on the rebound however most people saw they could make more money collecting unemployment. This move is seen as a way to get people to return to work.
Missouri along with Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana and South Carolina are choosing to end the federal aid.
